Our industry-leading Life Sciences (Pharma) and Chemistry & Materials practice groups are offering successful candidates the opportunity to qualify as a UK and European patent attorney. The groups support some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical, chemical/consumer companies and research institutions to protect innovation in exciting, cutting edge technologies.

This is a fantastic opportunity to begin a challenging and intellectually stimulating career using your scientific background and experience.

With a top-rated training programme we offer exceptional training and support for obtaining UK and EQE qualifications and beyond. Our ethos of collaboration informs everything we do, both in work and outside of it. The wide range of sports, clubs and charity initiatives sponsored by the firm are just one of the ways in which we encourage team-work and a healthy work/life balance.

We're looking for exceptional graduates who possess a strong first degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) or PhD in a relevant technical discipline such as chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry or pharmacology. For our 2022 intake, we are unfortunately not seeking applicants with a materials science background. To train as a patent attorney, you must have a STEM degree in a relevant technical discipline. Further information on degree requirements for each group can be found on our careers website. Your degree will be complemented by strong A Levels (typically 3 at grade A or equivalent).

We are proud to be using Rare Recruitment's Contextual Recruitment System (CRS) which allows us to consider your achievements in the context in which they were gained. We understand that not every candidate’s achievements look the same on paper – and we want to recruit the best people, from every background.

In addition to your technical skills, you demonstrate a natural curiosity and inquisitiveness, with a flair for writing and a meticulous eye for detail. Having an excellent command of both written and spoken English, you enjoy analysing and conceptualising complex matters, with a passion and aptitude for problem solving.

Our recruitment process is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your interest in a career within IP. If successful following the completion of our brief online application form and submission of your CV, you will be asked to complete a short pre-recorded video interview. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to attend a two-stage interview process, where you will meet a number of representatives from the firm. Interviews will be held during September and December.

In accordance with our equal opportunities policy, we will provide equal opportunities to any employee or job applicant, and will not discriminate either directly or indirectly because of race, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status, religion or belief, marital or civil partnership status, age, disability, or pregnancy and maternity.
